My Favorite Locals

Just in case you're wondering I am not into local Pinoy musicians, please do excuse me for awhile, my lapse. Below are my Pinoy's best list not necessarily in parallel with yours:
1 Asin
2 Apo Hiking Society
3 The Dawn
4 The Youth
5 Yano
6 Put3ska
7 Eraserheads
8 True Faith
9 Chain Gang
10 Bad Days for Mary
11 Siakol
12 RiverMaya (I like Bamboo and Nathan but I still tip my hat off Rico)
13 Kitchie Nadal
14 Bunny
15 Cocojam
16 Peacepipe
17 Tropical Deppression

Most of them are already legends. Classic. For those who have not heard of Asin, you're missing a large chunk of Philippine OPM. You need to hear them so you'll know your Pinoy music 101. And of course, Apo Hiking Society. Most in my list are major label bands except for Chain Gang, Bad Days for Mary and Bunny (if I had not been nakuryente courtesy of da Punk). These are bubblegum popsters, cheeky, fun, rarities you could treasure once found, and so sweet you'd want to kiss someone if you hear their album. Yup, they've got albums. The catch here is, find a half if you can.

And of course, you have noticed I did not list down other popular bands. Like Wolfgang (harharaharhar!) or Brownman Revival. Well, first of, I already like Alice in Chains, and I do not have much for Metallica or Eddie Vedder, so why would I want something that sounds like them? As for revivals, I like the way "There She Goes" by the La's revived for the nth time, "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", Sinead O'Connor's version of "Nothing Compares to You" and how Sonic Youth did the Carpenters' "Superstar", so, what else could a simple freak like me want?

If you are a global Pinoy and would like a taste of Pinoy's locals that are comparable to your international favorites, you may check out my list. It's not an expert's, more of a biased pop listener's choice.
