Avril Lavigne
With my age, I now recoil as analyst rather than music reviewer in this corner. It could be the inevitable aging... It could be a waning interest, it could be because of personal biases and preference...it could be anything at all.
But the September 3 gig of "punk princess" Avril Lavigne was not a punk performance. More of a transition performance from rock to top of the pops (or gunning for it). She had energy of course, 18 songs in a row, with a non-stop stage marching, some gymnastics, a little dancing, and showcasing of her guitar, piano and drums prowess.
She acknowledged how her first hit single "Complicated" will always remain special. I understand. It was a tribute-segue to her predecessor Grammy slammer Alanis Morisette's signature and catchy angst melodies that catapulted her to the heels of the Canadian rocker who remained so.
What was very noticeable on Lavigne's music is the transition from angst-rock, to emo, to all-the-way hip and dance tunes befitting her age and the generation of her listeners. She's ready to challenge the more boring crops of sensational global pop artists we currently have, but she has to learn a lot about the dynamics of dance and pop. Nevertheless, she has nailed her reputation on emo, ballad-rock if you will, singing tunes about unrequited love, undying love, dizzying & confusing passion, and themes that will remain acceptable to teens and young adults, specifically the female gender.

Back
So I started contacting and pestering people I know... video editor / producer Reg gave me Jim's number (now with Warner Music Phils...) and through them, I was able to contact Kitchie Nadal's manager Roca Cruz, who immediately committed to help. That was an awesome re-start, really!
I also googled on musicians and band I've heard of...One result, I landed on Kamikaze Baby's site. And while I've sent a lot (OK, about 5) invites for help to other local bands, Kamikaze Baby' Rob immediately responded letting me know they're interested, but there's one problem: they are located in Montreal, Canada. But then, it's not easy to ignore their music, so, I purchased their latest CD, and hope to review it here once it arrives...
For the meantime, I have a lot going, it's crack time once again... (I mean, I have already a load of things going on and adrenaline high is not a Beijing exclusive, Olympics, or not)...

Eraserhead/s
Eraserhead is a David Lynch weird movie... David Lynch did weird movies and he is quite more popular for discouraging diminutive electronic visual communication or media (stoopid hi-end, mobile phones and gadgets, to be exact). Anyway, Lynch uses a lot of audio dynamics and tells his stories in dreamlike fashion you end up like waking up after a vivid nightmare in most of his movies...
What a prelude... to the Eraserheads "reunion" concert on August 30 at CCP Open Grounds. Eraserheads is the most commercially successful band in the Philippines. (PERIOD). I might be going. I like the band, or Ely Buendia's quirky vocals.

The '90s Rock Bands
Here's his list:
25. Sebadoh. I've heard their music or album. Bleech.
24. Dinosaur Jr.
23. Sonic Youth, at 23? Should be top 3 or lower.
22. Pavement. Heavy for me is heavy, and a headache.
21. Flaming Lips. I guess, I liked them, too.
20. Cracker. I did not have nothing against this group, but not enough for me to have them stand out. Jesus, I was listening to loads, like a thousand tapes more to play...
19. Beck. Beck, a Dylan? of course not! But he sure should be on # 2.
18. Weezer. I like 'em, too, with a stupid grin plastered on my cheek.
17. Giant Sand. I am ignorant about a lot of things, including this dune.
16. Afghan Whigs. I am not sure now whether I liked 'em or not.
15. The Breeders. Who didn't like the Breeders?
14. Belle & Sebastian. If ignorance is a mortal sin, I should be shot.
13. Elliott Smith. Or hanged.
12. Mudhoney. Of course I love this band!
11. PJ Harvey. Did she emerge in the '90s? I have this nasty feeling of associating her with Linkin' Park. And it's not an easy feeling.
10. Nirvana. Why the hell... this ain't no alternative in the '90s. They DEFINED THE '90s.
9. Guided by voice. Am ignorant, shoot me again.
8. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Yeah.
7. Vic Chestnutt. Yes, he's good.
6. The Fall. I already had 3 bullets in.
5. Mark Lanegan. Make it five bullets.
4. Julian Cope. Six bullets.
3. American Music Club. Duh!
2. Red House Painters. I'm riddled, brought to the emergency room.
1. Tom Waits. Declared dead.
Here's My '90s list in no particular order nor label:
Alice in Chains
Sonic Youth
Nirvana
Live
Weezer
Tori Amos
Collective Soul
The Breeders
Jill Sobule
Cypress Hill
Beastie Boys
Sugar Ray
Beck
Soul Asylum
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Lenny Kravitz.
But many in my albums' list are compilations I should be posting sometime. And all these are of course western. I have my own local list listed elsewhere... Without time frame.
I've reacted because this is a Yahoo! list. While Microsoft may have pretended not to have any interest on Yahoo!, Yahoo! still tops personal e-mailing in the world.

AfterImage
'Nuff with the tele-prompt readers. hey, we voted one for vice president, hehe!
So, now that I am back in Quezon City, am still waiting for Club Dredd or Red Rocks to return to Timog... although if you'd check in this posts, Myra Ruaro (formerly Put3ska, because for me, that's their best group, OK?) has opened a joint in the scout areas... haven't check 'tho.
So, there... AfterImage reunited, belting out, perhaps, a new single Musikero from their album Our Place in The Sun(ouch!!! sorry to admit but I was not able to take a hold of any of their albums, they were too popular before I started reviewing, way back...) "Awitin Natin" fashion to the tune of U2 (ooooh-Bono and the keyboards distinct U2 tunes... didn't like U2, but my hubby's in love with the group I am almost jealous of Bono.)
I can't believe GMA (AfterImage was at Mel & Joey promoting) has got such a lousy sound. Hehe. I mean, sound should be a major investment by broadcast companies, and should come at least close to half the quality of MTV... Sure the band may not be a live band, and I don't mean here they were lip synching, NO! There are recording bands (their albums sound good) and there are live bands (their live shows kick ass)... And I haven't been checking these new (and old) bands in the metro, yet. Although it's in my itinerary. I have actually grown old, am now taking my time.

Beck's Black Tambourine
So OK, Loser's got us all --- mentally. But Beck's Beck on my list. I always get tipsy and dancing...
B52's Rock lobster
But still one of my all-time faves. I'd skank on this! Pardon me.
Rancid - Time Bomb
Be posting music I really enjoy... although honest, I like a load like an addict.

Screwed
- Major labels for driving file-sharing service Napster out of business in 2001, instead of figuring out a way to make money from its tens of millions of users. Napster multiplied like gremlins with a population of about millions to date.
- Talent scout Dick Rowe of Decca Records turning down the Beatles, saying "groups with guitars are on their way out," to the band's manager Brian Epstein.
- Berry Gordy selling the money-losing Motown Records, home of the Supremes and Marvin Gaye for about $60 million in 1988. In 1989, A&M Records sold for about $500 million, and David Geffen got about $700 million for Geffen Records.
Local:
Record companies including the then Octoarts turning down Eraserheads. The band became the best-selling Pinoy band in local history, under BMG Records Pilipinas.

Bad Days for Mary
This Link 1 is a sampler.
and this Link 2 is an interview.
OK, aside from the music, although I wasn't a groupie --- I was one of those on-your-face event organizers-writers during the era -- I shared with BDFM a lot of other activities including Rock'n Rhythm, late nights out, deadlines, the 'zine life (mine's beerMug, yeah the empty), music, music and a hell lot of music. We we're tryin' to get a life!
Anyway, the original line up is made up of Camille, George (bass), Irvin (drums), Ixan (lead guitar), BJ the punk (rhythm guitar), and Mad, aka Tinding Balasubas (keyboards).

Dating & Women
I stumbled on this dating book promo at Become a Playboy claiming to have all the answers of the issues below:
- How to approach any woman without fear ... and get her number!
- Killer pick up lines if you don't know what to say
- How to tell ... if your girl wants to be kissed
- The most powerful attraction and seduction techniques
- A step-by-step plan to get that woman you have feelings for!
- How to successfully get a date with a model or a hottie
- Where to take women on dates without having to pay a dime.
- Seduction secrets that will make women melt in your hands
- A guaranteed way to get a girlfriend in the next 7 days!
- The biggest mistakes YOU make when it comes to women and dating
and decided to have my own say about men, women and dating. Not that I am an expert like David Wygant. Then, there's another claiming "Get Laid Guarantee Okay, here's the deal. Buy this book now and get all 3 bonuses. Try this material out for a full 60 days. If you don't meet 10 beautiful women within those 2 months as a result of this hot new book, then I demand that you ask for a full refund. I will cheerfully refund your money if you do not land yourself a really hot babe within 60 days."
This is life! any guy would be saying, with a devilish grin. I often wonder what's keeping them from having a wonderful relationship...
Because in reality, as much as we would like to believe human relations could be put in a book, it all ends up as a myth. So, more books are written and more books sold. But the problem remains.
I'd offer my unsolicited opinion, anyway, and maybe just freakin' forget it... I mean, okay, it's a lonely world out there. If she's not interested, try find someone who will elsewhere...
- How to approach any woman without fear ... and get her number!
At least have an idea why would she want to be aproached by a stranger like you. At least, try to be in her shoe (shoes?). Many attractive women are almost always taken. It's okay to settle for the next attractive one. Or the less attractive one. Better make it your task to make the un-attractive women you can get become attractive. It would be a little unfair, or cruel, maybe. But it all becomes subjective. It just happens that when un-attractive women gets attention from a guy / guys, they tend to bloom and make extra efforts to become attractive. This is the more practical side, you un-attractive fella. Let's face it. Why would an attractive guy need these guides?
- Killer pick up lines if you don't know what to say
Maybe, just shut up. Wygant suggested droping a ten dollar bill, or a car key, but make it appear like it was an accident of sort, while the woman you'd like to talk with is a few steps behind. Just make sure she'd spot the key or the bill. Or that she would care. Otherwise, creativity has gone for naught. The killer line? "Oooops!" If it won't work, go back to first tip. Effort is the keyword here. Why would you waste time for a woman you are not really interested with? If it is just a fuck you want, (well, most guys want it for free, darn the economy!) there are very attractive women at the tip of your fingers (online brothels?).
- How to tell ... if your girl wants to be kissed
Her breath smells fresh, she smells irresistible, and it seemed okay that you touch her. Otherwise, keep off, or cut the date and go home. Let's not waste some precious time.
- The most powerful attraction and seduction techniques
Honesty and transparency. Why force yourself? Just be yourself always works.
- A step-by-step plan to get that woman you have feelings for!
Now, do we have to start all over again? It so happens that most attractive women are plain un-decided whom to keep for steady date, or for commitment. We're talking about matters of life and death here. As the joke goes, many women have started to become wise and practical, and would rather keep the sausage in the freezer than bring home a pig. While you may be after the endless carnal pleasure, your woman will be looking for someone who will be a little more attentive to details, like listening to her small talks. A majority of them, anyway, would prefer someone who knows how to listen well.
- How to successfully get a date with a model or a hottie
You gotta have the load. Pay David Wgant's workshop, and you're in it. But if it won't work, just being there for her might.
- Where to take women on dates without having to pay a dime.
Is this for real? I really do not dig this. Unless of course you own an upscale restaurant. Otherwise, there's no such thing as a free dinner, dude!
- Seduction secrets that will make women melt in your hands
This is temporary. Lust is very temporary. If you are after sex, it is almost always practical to have it with a paid woman. But if you are really want her for --- say --- a year or two (haha), there is no need to seduce if the woman feels the same.
- A guaranteed way to get a girlfriend in the next 7 days!
Seven days? Cool. That's fast. Then lose her in 24 hours. Of course, there are techniques that really work. Work on convincing her for a couple of days. Then, avoid her as if she was a plague afterwards, and, it is suggested, she'd come running to you. Yeah right! Just don't be a pig, ever, okay?
- The biggest mistakes YOU make when it comes to women and dating
Being a pig. Women like sex for pleasure. But need more time for little details, like listening while she talks about her favorite charity, or her snotty neighbor, or the pig next door.

Of Morality & Youth
In forums, it is normal to discuss about SEB, FuBu, and other things I used to suspect only bar girls would talk about (in a day's work). The farthest I've been exposed to using in an ordinary chat is Fubar, 'cause we once hosted a night (or a couple) of it at Club Dredd (Fubar, BTW, meant fucked-up beyond any recognition, or something as close).
Maybe, it has something to do with the shift of lifestyle, from ordinary office hours, to a 24-hour work environment brought about by call centers. Maybe, it is the coffee shops that proliferated in the metro nowadays...
Take this sampling from a recent chat with a stranger, a Pinoy...
wan_derer_ph : hello po!

Online Dating
Okay, here's a very funny overview and an advice on online dating from David Wygant. Pardon me if I find it funny. Must be the east-west divide (no, I don't mean terrorism issues, lol!. I am not in the business of arms manufacturing, dealing or marketing! Am not even from the U.S. Haha!)
Why am I on this stuff? We have plans to launch an online dating site and basically, it is still on its development stage. And I need to know a few things about online dating and online affairs and cultivating online relationships...
But what's with online dating?
It seemed at first glance online dating and online affair was the evolution of SOP (sex on the phone). As for sex, Live Science says sex is something that's normally craved for...so much like violence and food.
But going farther, apart from sex, appreciation and expression are an intrinsic factors that online relationships (whether it be with real-life friends and family members to total strangers) thrive: in forums, chatrooms, blogs, elsewhere. An example is for Filipinos whose many families and friends are separated due to economic reasons translated remittances. Through networking sites, they can be updated about most screened and intentionally posted events, photos, whatever.
But for many Westerners, i.e., Caucasians, I have observed that many adult males and females are actually having an advantage and want to gain the most out of it. Unfortunately, though, as they discover and begin to appreciate Asian or Oriental values (family-centeredness, loyalty, and valueing character above material things), these are slowly melted and mixed with Western individualism, freedom and openness.
While it is safe to say that pornography, for instance, exists in most parts of the world since the naked creation, it has pushed a lot of boundaries as the body and its pleasures are glorified in the net.
What we miss as we are made to believe about the hype of the flesh are the more pleasant and acceptable ways on which we could interact and become intimate with other people as friends or relatives (clan or family members). As I tried to point out earlier, as an Asian, married and with children, I was able to develop friendship with Caucasian guys (teen and adults) who sought online means to connect and express, and not to see or show some of their body parts. In the long run, these are more pleasant, less stressful, and can be cultivated like a neighborhood friendship...

- this photo was taken decades ago. I am already 118 y.o. so, use your imagination. can't say much, but i love food. and yes, go ahead, correct my grammar, spelling, data, & posts. but now that we're at it, I am an advocate for Anarchy in its best sense. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchy I despise government people that cannot implement policies properly.
